An outdated habit: Paper receipts in retail
Every year, 8.3 million kilometers of thermal paper are printed – in Germany alone.
Much of it is discarded immediately. Since the introduction of the receipt issuance obligation, retailers must print a receipt for every purchase – whether needed or not. This leads to tons of waste and unnecessary use of resources like water and paper.
Thermal paper contains BPA or BPS – harmful chemicals that pose health risks and pollute the environment. Because of their coating, receipts can’t be recycled and must be disposed of as residual waste. Despite digital alternatives, paper receipts remain the norm – though simpler solutions have long existed.
A simple shift: Digital receipts with Blitzbill
Our goal is to create a user-friendly digital solution that replaces traditional paper receipts – without the need for an app, registration, or internet connection. We are developing software that is directly integrated into the point-of-sale system and automatically generates a digital receipt for every purchase. This receipt is transferred to the customer's smartphone via an NFC-enabled card reader. The digital receipt is saved and can be accessed at any time. In this way, we aim to make the digital receipt the new standard – for greater convenience and sustainability in everyday life.
