A global danger: Heatwaves in Cities
Climate change not only affects our nature and wildlife, but also us humans in our everyday lives in cities. In particular increasing heat plays a major role, due to dense building development and the sealing of surfaces with concrete and asphalt. As a result, energy consumption for cooling purposes increased and public health is negatively affected. Furthermore, degraded air quality and elevated pollution levels in cities support the growing health risks. At the same time, ecosystems and biodiversity are also suffering from rising temperatures in cities and are rapidly disappearing from the modern cityscape.

City Vital: A green solution towards a greener city
The project City Vital fights the increasing heat in cities and the loss of biodiversity with green and sustainable architectural solutions. This involves installing planted sun sails in urban spaces to provide shade. Likewise, vegetation has a cooling effect on the atmosphere through the process of evaporation. At the same time the plants absorb carbon dioxide and have a positive effect on air quality. Simultaneously, plants serve as valuable ecosystems for various insects and counteract the grey cityscape.
